Jyotipal Mahathero Buddhist Orphanage

The Orphanage was established in 1942 as one of the components of the Kanakchetiya Vihara Complex at Baraigaon by His Holiness Sangharaj Jyotipal Mahathero (The Supreme Patriarch of Bangladesh). Now the Orphanage became the main organisation and turned into a foundation consisting of different welfare institutions like Boys High School, Girls High School, Primary School, Pali College Charitable dispensary etc. The Orphanage basically provides shelter to orphans, semi orphans and destitute of the society. They have been residing and enjoying here free food, lodging, clothing, medical cares and education from primary to high school level. Presently there are 150 residential students and many other local boys and girls being benefited from this orphanage. The Orphanage is now registered with the Directorate and Social Welfare Department of Bangladesh Government and has also go the foreign registration to be eligible for receiving financial assistance from abroad.
Objective
Being one of the poorest countries in the world Bangladesh has a vast multitude of orphan and destitute children who have no ways of life except unbearable sufferings. Especially for orphans in minority community such suffering is in-human and beyond imagination. Aiming to take share in abatement of such suffering the Orphanage took an attempt community to make them stand with minimum human qualities. Residential children are mostly from Buddhist community who are brought up in Buddhist ideology. Very few muslims and others have no binding to abide by Buddhist ideals and cults. All children are provided with education as much as their ability permits. When they grow elder and able bodied young man they are released to find their own living.
